Our research and extension program is all about helping fruit and vegetable farmers, consultants and extension specialists do a better job of managing weeds. We conduct practical research that brings new weed control technology to the farm, and incorporates new knowledge about weed biology and the agroecosystem. We develop and provide educational programs and curriculum to help our clients become better weed managers. We train students who will become the scientists, educators, extension specialists and farmers of tomorrow. These are images taken by students and staff while working in the Weed Workshop. |

ScaleNet is all about scale insects (Coccoidea): a group of insects comprising about 7,500 species. Scale insects vary dramatically in their appearance from very small organisms (1-2mm) that occur under wax covers (some look like oyster shells), to shiny pearl-like objects (about 5mm), to creatures covered with mealy wax. They spend most or all of their lives feeding on plants and are primarily important as plant pests in greenhouses, backyards, and on fruit trees. ScaleNet provides comprehensive information on the scale insects of the world, including queriable information on their classification, nomenclatural history, distribution, hosts, and literature. |

Mactode Publications was initially created in order to develop educational teaching materials for the science of plant nematology. Scientific expertise is provided by Dr. Jonathan D. Eisenback of the Department of Plant Pathology, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA and Professor Dr. Ulrich Zunke of the Department of Cell Biology, University of Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany. We specialize in educational resources, primarily for nematology, such as photographs on CD ROMs (for teaching, extension and web pages), as well as videos, books, posters, and 3D models for research and study, as well as for illustrating class lectures, seminars, and handouts. |
